Kamikaze Mario DX+ is the most important release by 79, one of the most influential Japanese SMB hackers of the early 2000s. This hack features graphic changes, new power ups, and all enemies are changed to either bullet bills or piranha plants. There are many secrets and puzzles, including 5 hidden worlds. This “DX+” version has 4 more worlds than the previous “DX” version.

STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. As a pioneering example with an excellent amount of ASM edits, you could say it's the "Takeshi's Challenge" equivalent of SMB Hacks that relies on the absurd and unusual solutions, but can be tackled without relying on any walkthroughs. The levels remains high end that weaves snuggly into mischievousness of the game's design; you got to watch out for either an odd-looking block or enter pathways with a bit of brain thinking. 

This hack is savestateless-friendly with the exception of World "?" that can be unlocked post-game. Being said, except to sink down a good amount of hours if you're playing this blind, but there is certainly a strong satisfaction from figuring out the puzzles Kamikaze DX+ provides. The hacking scene would have been drastically been different without this one around, as many other hackers have since extracted the code and implemented many of the traits found in here throughout the rest of the 2000s.
